Have you ever felt that initial New Year's motivation but struggled to keep it going all year? Well, you're not alone! Here are 6 simple tips to help you not just set goals but stick with them long after January is over.

1. Set realistic goals: Make sure your New Year's resolutions are both attainable and practical. Break larger goals into smaller, more manageable steps to enhance your ability to stay on course, and increase the likelihood of sustaining new habits over the long term. Remember to acknowledge and celebrate progress and incremental successes to foster a sense of accomplishment. This positive reinforcement will boost your motivation, reinforcing your commitment to maintaining positive changes.

2. Be specific: Clearly define your resolutions. Vague goals such as 'eat better', 'get fitter'  make it difficult to measure progress and stay motivated. Instead of a broad resolution, specify what you want to achieve and establish clear milestones.

3. Create a plan:  Develop a detailed plan outlining the steps you need to take to achieve your resolutions. Having a roadmap can help you stay organised and focused, making it more likely that you'll stick to your goals throughout the year.

4. Set up accountability and support:  Set up an accountability system that works for you - it might be a partner or friend, a coach, using an App or a tracker to monitor your progress. Sharing your goals with friends, family, or a support group can help you to stay accountable can provide motivation, encouragement and provide guidance and support during setbacks. Consider regular check-ins to discuss your progress and challenges. And remember to build in rewards and celebrate your progress!

5. Celebrate progress not perfection:  Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements along the way, no matter how small. Recognising the progress you've made, even with small milestones, boosts morale and reinforces the positive habits that lead to reaching your goals.

6. Learn from setbacks: As Tony Robbins says, "There are no failures, only learnings." Understand that setbacks are a natural part of any journey towards change. Instead of viewing them as failures, consider them as opportunities to learn and adjust your approach. Identify what didn't work, adapt your plan, and move forward with renewed determination.

Keep in mind, as you set your goals for 2024, to incorporate some health goals. We often focus on finances, career, travel, and family, but allocating space for health goals is crucial, as these underpin the achievement of your other goals and aspirations.
